Math Topology

The modern subject of topology studies space in a different way than geometry does. The geometric concepts of straightness, distance, and angle are excluded from topology, but the concept of boundary is central to topology. In topology, a sphere remains a sphere even when it's squeezed or stretched.

Not everything has a boundary. For instance, the circumference of a circle has no boundary. In general, if something is a boundary, it has no boundary itself. So boundaries are cycles. But not all cycles are boundaries.

But on a toroidal surface (rotate a circle around a line in the plane of the circle that doesn't meet the circle), there are circles (for instance, that circle mentioned parenthetically) that don't bound any region on the surface. Technical math

backward, and I wish I could give you a good reason for that, but I
can't. Everyone I knew growing up hated high-school chemistry, and so
did I, because we seemed to spend endless hours doing things like
converting grams to pounds and ounces to liters, and learning to
determine how much of reagents X and Y you'd need to make some
particular amount of reagent Z.

None of which has anything to do with
what's really going on in chemistry! They don't help you understand

conspiracy among high school chemistry teachers to keep all the good

Introduction of Conditional Probability


Let us study about conditional probability,
A conditional probability is the probability of an event given that another event has occurred. For example, what is the probability that the total of two dice will be greater than 8 given that the first die is a 6? This can be computed by considering only outcomes for which the first die is a 6. Then, determine the proportion of these outcomes that total more than 8. All the possible outcomes for two dice are shown below:

There are 6 outcomes for which the first die is a 6, and of these, there are four that total more than 8 (6,3; 6,4; 6,5; 6,6). The probability of a total greater than 8 given that the first die is 6 is therefore 4/6 = 2/3.

Rational Numbers

A rational number is a number that can be expressed as a fraction p/q where p and q are integers and q!=0. A rational number p/q is said to have numerator p and denominator q. Numbers that are not rational are called irrational numbers. The real line consists of the union of the rational and irrational numbers. The set of rational numbers is of measure zero on the real line, so it is "small" compared to the irrationals and the continuum.

The set of all rational numbers is referred to as the "rationals," and forms a field that is denoted Q. Here, the symbol Q derives from the German word Quotient, which can be translated as "ratio," and first appeared in Bourbaki's Algèbre (reprinted as Bourbaki 1998, p. 671).

Any rational number is trivially also an algebraic number.

Frequency Distribution


Let us study about Frequency Distribution,
Frequency distributions are like frequency polygons; however, instead of straight lines, a frequency distribution uses a smooth curve to connect the points and, similar to a graph, is plotted on two axes: The horizontal axis from left to right (or x axis) indicates the different possible values of some variable (a phenomenon where observations vary from trial to trial). The vertical axis from bottom to top (or y axis) measures frequency or how many times a particular value occurs.

For example, in Figure 1 , the x axis might indicate annual income (the values would be in thousands of dollars); the y axis might indicate frequency (millions of people or percentage of working population). Notice that in Figure 1 the highest percentage of the working population would thus have an annual income in the middle of the dollar values. The lowest percentages would be at the extremes of the values: nearly 0 and extremely high.

Notice that this frequency curve displays perfect symmetry; that is, one half (the left side) is the mirror image of the other half (the right side). A bell-shaped or mound-shaped curve is also normal, giving it special properties.

Tables of Trigonometric Functions


Let us study the Tables of Trigonometric Functions,
Calculators and tables are used to determine values of trigonometric functions. Most scientific calculators have function buttons to find the sine, cosine, and tangent of angles. The size of the angle is entered in degree or radian measure, depending on the setting of the calculator. Degree measure will be used here unless specifically stated otherwise. When solving problems using trigonometric functions, either the angle is known and the value of the trigonometric function must be found, or the value of the trigonometric function is known and the angle must be found. These two processes are inverses of each other. Inverse notations are used to express the angle in terms of the value of the trigonometric function. The expression sin θ = 0.4295 can be written as θ = Sin−10.4295 or θ = Arcsin0.4295 and these two equations are both read as “theta equals Arcsin 0.4295.” Sometimes the expression “inverse sine of 0.4295” is used. Some calculators have a button marked “arc,” which is pressed prior to the function key to express “arc” functions. Arc functions are used to find the measure of the angle if the value of the trigonometric function is known. If tables are used instead of a calculator, the same table is used for either process. Note: The use of calculators or tables gives only approximate answers.Even so, an equal (=) sign is sometimes used instead of an approximate (≈ or ≅) sign.

Example 2: What angle has a cosine of 0.3912?


Although a calculator can find trigonometric functions of fractional angle measure with ease, this may not be true if you must use a table to look up the values. Tables cannot list all angles. Therefore, approximation must be used to find values between those listed in the table. This method is known as linear interpolation. The assumption is made that differences in function values are directly proportional to the differences of the measures of the angles over small intervals. This is not really true, but yields a better answer than just using the closest value in the table. This method is illustrated in the following examples.
