Bar graphs are probably the most famous & most widely used graph types. Bar graphs allow a graphical representation of data in different groups & categories. The length of a bar characterize the numerical amount for a given series point.
Bar graphs are a very general type of graph best suited for a qualitative independent variable. Hence there is no uniform distance between the discrete nature of the individual bars & levels of a qualitative variable are well suited for this type of independent variable. Though you can extract trends between bars e.g., they are gradually getting longer or shorter, we cannot calculate a slope from the heights of the bars.
